As we welcome a new year, a profound human tragedy unfolds in Gaza, where thousands of Palestinians endure harsh lives under Israeli bombardment, in dilapidated tents that offer no protection from heavy rains,

with around 50,000 children having lost limbs due to violence. Hospitals are out of service, with no medicine or medical equipment, and an entire people left homeless, facing daily death from cold, hunger, and disease, while the world watches this tragedy in frightening silence.

Humanity, as I see it, begins with justice, and justice is the fortress that protects people and grants them dignity and honor. Here emerges the example of Omar ibn al-Khattab, the Commander of the Faithful, who was granted the respect and awe of all the kings of the earth thanks to his justice and fairness, to the point that the messenger of Caesar

, the Roman emperor, upon seeing him sleeping on the ground, said: “You have been just, O Omar.” Justice is not merely a law; it is the power that protects society and shields it from moral and social collapse.

At the beginning of a new year, we must ask ourselves: Will justice become a true standard in positions of responsibility? Will dedication and excellence become the basis for appreciation and promotion, or will corruption,

favoritism, and injustice continue? Islam has taught us that justice and fairness are fundamental values, as God commanded them and forbade injustice upon Himself and made it forbidden among His servants. He said: {Indeed, Allah commands justice and good conduct…} (An-Nahl: 90), and {Be just; it is closer to righteousness} (Al-Ma’idah: 8).

With the beginning of the new year, justice must be the mirror of our human behavior, and humanity must transform from slogans into actions. A leader or official should not be measured by their power or authority, but by the extent to which they achieve justice and dignity among people. In the end, justice is the foundation that preserves humanity and society, giving life its true meaning.

With the year 2026, hope remains that humanity will triumph through justice, and that we all move toward a world of greater fairness and mercy, far from silence in the face of human tragedies.
